The Rucksack Project – Get Involved!

December 23, 2015
For the second year running, OneSearch took part in The Rucksack Project, and donated items such as warm clothing, blankets, scarves/gloves, and toiletries, for homeless people on Glasgow’s streets. The Rucksack Project was chosen as one of our nominated good causes, for its tangible impact on those who need our help, especially through the winter months. The aim of the movement is explained further on their website, though can be summarised in this paragraph: “Those people who are stuck on the streets with nowhere to turn risk freezing to death during the winter months, and need a little help to make it through the freezing days and nights. The Rucksack Project, through its network of amazing volunteers, is answering the call all across the UK and further afield, by making and distributing rucksack packs, which have the potential to save lives.” Our Customer Services Deputy Manager, Carol Dodd, first brought The Rucksack Project to our attention, and organised a collection from generous OneSearch staff: rucksack-project Carol donated items on our behalf yesterday, and was delighted to report that this year’s Glasgow drop-off event had been hugely successful. There are still drop-off events taking place throughout the UK, and Carol encourages everyone to get involved. “At this time of year, when winter starts to creep in and it gets darker and colder, I’m so thankful for the heat and shelter I have. I can’t help thinking about those who are less fortunate, out on the streets with no such luxuries. “Homeless people don’t rely on, or expect much, from anyone. However, a little something from the list of recommended items would make a world of difference. It doesn’t have to cost anything if you already have some items that you’re thinking of handing in to a charity shop. Why not help make a change this year, by popping some items into a bag (rucksack or holdall), and donate to the nearest rucksack project drop-off point.” If you would like to find out more about The Rucksack Project, you can visit their website here. The Rucksack Project is nationwide, and the full list of event locations can be found here.
